XP pro laptop can't see server when moved.

today I moved my laptop out of my office and into a conference room for a
meeting. I connected the network cable to the laptop and cold booted. I
logged on but could not connect to my Exchange server, the Internet, or
anything else. I could ping our firewall though. I tried multiple cables of
course. I moved the laptop into another room and it was the same problem.
then I moved it back to my officeand the problem went away. one last detail,,
in my office my network cable is daisy chained through a Cisco 7940 IP phone.
