This fix is applicable to static IP addresses. Find out from your ISP if you
have a static IP address. Okay, first I would recommend reconnecting your
DSL modem with your PC, then you need to write down certain IP numbers from
your network connection. Here's how:
1) Click Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections
2) You should have one or more connections listed, right click on the
connection being used for the internet and click status. Next click the
support tab, and then click details.
3) Write down the following numbers display after the texts:
IP Address:
Subnet Mask:
Default Gateway:
DNS Server:
DNS Server:
DNS Server:
Note - You only need one DNS server entry to gain access to the internet,
but if more are listed, ensure you make a note of them.
Now what you need to do, is connect your modem to your router, your pc to
your router, and go back to your network connections. Next, right click on
your previously found network connection, and click properties. Find
"Internet Protocol", click on it and click properties, ensure you have
written down all information before proceding, and click obtain address
automatically on both IP and DNS. Now, go to your router setup page and find
an Internet connection option, change to Static IP, and fill in the
information you have just found.
Note for DHCP ISP users, if you can connect your modem to your pc and access
the internet, but not your modem to your router, and your pc to your router,
you may need to clone your pc's mac address in your router. Contact your ISP
to find out if they store your mac address.
