Network drops since upgrading to XP

Hi all,

I have a problem with my network since ugrading to XP.

This machine was on Win2K without any problems, I have since upgraded it
to XP and ever since when doing network intensive operations such as
online gaming my network will randomly drop.

I have tried numerous things to resolve this but without success. I have
now even formatted the machibe, completely reinstalled with just XP and
CounterStrike Source installed and the issue is still occuring.

I have even replaced my ADSL router, I originally had a Netgear DG824M,
now have a Linksys WAG54G and the same problem is there. The router
DHCP's addresses, and the ISP is Eclipse. This issue is occuring on
wired connections, I haven't even got as far as testing wireless yet.

Situation is this, if I have a ping -t <External website> running on
it's own then this will run for days and days without a problem, but if
I then start playing CS or similar then at anytime from 1 minute to 2
hours the netwrk will just drop, and the ping gets "Request timed out",
renew of the adapter fails, but if I disable and re-enable the adapter
the connection is restored for another random period.

I have tried changing MTU's on the adapter and router to various
settings from the default of 1500 down to 1300 with no change in
behaviour. The adapter has latest drivers, the routers both have latest
firmwares...XP firewall and router firewall disabled and the error still
occurs. Even changed cables and installed another PCI LAN adapter.

As I said, this was all working perfectly before upgrading to XP from
Win2K, does anybody have any further suggestions to prevent me from
going crazy?

Thanks in advance
Chris
