Bill,
You mentioned that you upgraded the firmware of the D-Link. I have the DI-624 one, and after I do a firmware upgrade. I need to go into the router's settings interface, and make sure that things haven't been changed back to the default ones.

I would check the under DCHP settings, see how often it checks IP renewal.
