Hi Paddy,
I tore my hair trying to do the same with two computers running XP. One had
(A)SP2 (Norton Antivirus ON and windows firewall ON) and the other one had
(B) SP1 (Norton antivirus ON, Norton internet security ON and Window firewall
ON)
I am using a D-Link Router Di-524.
After setting up the networks on both computers (Workgroups should have the
same name)
-I could see on (B): both computers but could not access (A)
--I was getting the same message you are getting when trying to connect (A)
-I could see on (A): (A) only
I tried to open LAN to LAN ports on the router trying different configs, but
NADA
I turned Norton Internet securtity Off on (B), that did not get me anywhere
either.
The only thing that suddenly "unblinded" computer (B) and at the same time
gave permission to computer (A) was to disable windows firewall on computer
(B).
Now, I understand that disabling the firewall (this was on computer (B)
running SP1, SP2 Firewall did not seem to be a problem) can be scary but you
are behind a router and if you are running Norton internet security you
should be fine.
I am not an expert as you can guess but I hope this will help.
Cheers
Chr
