UDP responses and routers

Can anyone tell or point me in the right direction (ie a web link) to an
explanation on how UDP responses are handled by a router please?
I think I read somewhere that when a UDP request leaves the router (from lan
for example) the router will remember for a short time where to return a
possible response from the endpoint.
I was wondering what would happen if an outgoing request generated several
incoming UDP datagrams, whether any would get lost after a time etc.
Also, if several users on the lan were sending datagrams to the same IP/Port
on a remote server how does the router match response to original request.
thanks
