Agree with Mike. The UPnP feature of the router, if enabled, allows certain
services to automatically program a 'path' through the router. Services
operate on ports (logical rather than physical). The 'path' takes the
information from the internet (WAN) port and translates it to the local PC
port (LAN). Most ports are pre-defined, http is port 80 for example - there
is a list here:

So if you dont have UPnP, you may need to enter the details manually. This
section has the MSN ports/services and the relevant Q notes.
