Since you have DSL, get a cheap Linksys BEFSR41 router that does NAT.
With the router both of you can be on-line without the other one doing
anything. The router also protects both of you in a limited fashion. The
router will make things very simple - you will need your user/domain
name and DSL password to set it up properly.
