I am setting a home network with 2 comps to share internet.
I have ZYXEL ADSL LAN EE modem. Its description is found here
http://www.zyxel.ru/public/omni/oadsl.lan/documentation/lan-ug.pdf . I have
dlink DES-1005D 5 ports switch. Its description is here
http://www.ciao.co.uk/product.php/pName/D_Link_DES_1005D/Pid/1,5215759,52157

I have network adapter installed on one computer at present. I want to gift
the broadband connection to sister as a new year present. So I will hook the
other comp later. I want to be sure that everything will work. At present,
my ISP is doing the stuff so that my phone line will work with DSL. They
will give me internet access near the new year.
My question is: modem has 1 RJ45 port on the back. I have connected this
port to switch. Switch has 5 ports but no special port to connect it to
modem. So I connected modem to port 1 on switch. Port 2 on switch is
connected to my PC. Port 3 on switch will be connected to second comp. Both
comps have winXP. On ipconfig, I get 192.168.0.1. So, it seems to me as it
will work. But I did a little more study over the internet and now I am
confused about router/switch. If I understand correctly, my modem is capable
of routing and I am right in connecting a switch to it. But I want to know
if this thing will work or I need a router too somewhere there? Please help
me and tell me if I need something else too and if I have connected
everything correctly.
If any other information is required, I will.
Thanks.
Saini
