We had an established home network with two computers running Win XP Pro.
One had problems that required the HD to be formatted and all SW
re-installed. Despite all efforts, the network could not be re-established.
Coincidentally, Norton SystemWorks 2005 (with NAV) was installed on the
other computer. At the time, this was overlooked as a possible contributing
factor, but it turned out to be the cause of our problem. We stumbled upon
the solution at
http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles/archive/r0803/10r03/10r03.asp.
After a straight-forward registry edit and reboot, everything worked again
and our home reverberated with singing, dancing, and rejoicing! (The usual
warnings about editing the registry prevail.)

Special thanks to "Chuck" who had tried to help us, but it appears that we
had not provided all possible relevant information. We hope this posting
may assist others.
