I just run the test you suggested.
I recieve four reply from the addresses you gave me, and as a mastter
of fact google.com is one of the web pages I can see with IE.
I tried "ping microsoft.com" (which is one of the wb pages I CAN'T
see), then "ping virgilio.it" (same as microsoft). It turns out that
all of the pages I can see pass the test, while the others fail it
(obviously).
I still can't solve my problem.....I can recieve mail (at a very Low
speed) but can't send it.....oddly, winmx is working fine, while
messenger is not.
no need to say that from the host computer all of the web pages work
right and I can sand and recieve mail.
Any hint at what my problem could be?
How does the ICMP protocol relates to all this? should I authorize it
on the lan card?
n.b. right now I've disabled windows firewall. I know this can create
"holes" i my security(windows keeps reminding me), but if I want to
solve this problem I have to proceed one step at a time.
p.s I still can't understand why the automated network settings isn't
working properly with SP2. It worked fine with SP1. By the way, i've
got SP1 on the client, but I can't belive this is the problem: SP1 and
SP2 were both relased by microsoft.......and they relates to the same
OS......
thanx a lot
