It simply depends on how your connected to the public internet. In my case I have a cable ISP and
also have my home completely wired with CAT5. In my case I use a combination 4-Port Broadband
Router/802.11b/g Wireless Access Point to both share my cable broadband ISP and provide local
network connectivity, both wired (100 Mbps Ethernet) and wireless (802.11b/g), to clients. I use a
Buffalo WBR-G54 for that. Since I have 10 CAT5 drops throughout the house I also use an eight port
switch so all of the 10 drops are connected to my home LAN and the internet through the router. The
switch and router are connected together as noted on this page...

Prior to this setup I used ICS on one XP Pro box and the switch to both access my old dialup ISP and
allow other clients to access both the local LAN and the internet...
