To avoid becoming even more "confused", please be aware that you won't
be able to follow Carey's suggestion of "Tip #1 on all PCs". That tip
doesn't apply to Windows XP, because (with a single exception) the
settings that it describes don't exist in Windows XP.
Please see Chuck's reply for good advice: replacing the hub with a
home broadband router to give Internet access and file sharing to both
computers. The setup wizard calls a router a "residential gateway".
Be sure that there isn't more than one firewall on either computer.
Disable XP's built-in firewall if Norton or ZoneAlarm is running.
