George,
If your connection is disabled, a hacker, or any worm circulating in your ISP's
net space, will pass you by, for a better target.
But, as soon as you reconnect, you'll get hit. On some networks, you can be
infected within 30 seconds - 2 minutes after connecting.
Please! If you intend to connect to the internet, protect yourself. And the
rest of us.
And George, please don't contribute to the spread and success of email address
mining viruses. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a
bit safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the
internet - read this article.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
