Go to Device Manager and un-install the network adapter for the LAN
connection. Reboot and let XP detect and re-install it.

If that doesn't solve the problem, go to the network adapter
manufacturer's web site and download and install the latest XP driver
program.

Are there any relevant messages in Event Viewer? To run it, click
Start | Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Administrative
Tools | Event Viewer. For more information, see:
