Hi, mark -
This happened to me about three weeks ago. Lost my TCP-
IP stack and almost all my services were set to manual.
For me it wasn't a virus, but a piece of spyware I
removed that hosed my machine.
Here's what I did -
First, I downloaded WinsockXPfix from
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
and ran it - that repaired my TCP-IP stack when netsh
wouldn't.
Then, I had my wife's PC to compare services and got the
machine running that way - if you don't have another
Windows XP machine available, you can find a list of
default service settings at
http://www.beemerworld.com/tips/servicesxp.htm
