Well it just doesn't want to stay on for long!!!!!!!!! Have SP2 update. 2
computers, each with a realtek ethernet card and a 1394a card. Run both
computers into a 4 port ADSL modem, via the realtek cards. Connet to a
broadband net not problems. Have the 2 1394a cards hard wired direct with
correct lead. Everything worked well under SP1. After some valuable advice
early from a MVP, I managed to set up a network under SP2, but it doesnt
last long!!!
Have the realtek cards set up only for tcp ip.

The 1394a cards set up for client for microsoft windows, file sharing, and
tcpip also have netbios over tcp ip set.

I am not using the SP2 firewalls, as I have Zonealarm running.

When I set up a network, using the home network wizzard, both computers set
up, want to reboot and when rebooted, a home network is working. Leave both
computers to their own devices, maybe 30 mins, go back to check the network,
one of the computers will not detect the other one now. One computer will
only see its self in view workgroup computers.

Also I have noticed every now and then both compturers will bring up a 1394
network unplugged baloon. Nothing or no one is anywhere near the cable. It
may last for 20 seconds and then it appears that the 1394's are connected
again.

The only way to actually form a network, is to completely rename it with a
name I have not used before. Using any old network name previously used,
wont work. I know I have seen in a number of forums the same complaint re
network cards mysteriously becoming un plugged for a short time and then
appear all right.

Greatly appreciated the early help in getting a network up and running, but
it doesnt last very long........
