I'm not sure what the problem is, but here are some things that you
might not have tried that could help:

1. Un-share and re-share the printer on XP.

2. Un-install the printer on both computers. Download the latest 2000
and XP drivers from the HP web site and install the printer using
those drivers rather than drivers on CD or the ones built into
Windows.
