Persistant Disconnects

I've got WinXP installed on a AMD based machine, with a creative labs modem.
For unknown reasons I get disconnected from my DUN connection at completely
random times. I've tried using a line filter and it just doesn't work.
However, I can keep my connectioin if I have certain games running(ex:
Freelancer). Any way to remedy this problem?
