how about enabling Internet Connection Sharing on the XP
computer?

This also turns it into a DHCP server, so you may want to remove
the IP addresses and settings from all other computers and let
them get their IP addresses and settings (like DNS) from the
DHCP server, i.e. from your Windows XP computer.
