if this is a cable connecting 2 computers directly (NIC
to NIC)then make sure you are using a "crossover" cable,
not an inline patch cable. If you are already, or if
going thru a switch/hub/router - it could be a bad cable -
try a replacement one
Give us a little more info about your network / equipment
and what you are trying to do.

Installed properly. When checked the IPCONFIG settings,
cust had 'Media Disconnected'. I would like to know if
this is a problem with the NIC card or with the Software.
