I am setting up a new branch office connected to our main office with a T1
line. We have 8 other branch offices and I setup 6 of those with no
problems. I have set up this office the same as the others. Here is my
setup:
Main Office:
172.20.x.x/28 network space
NT 4 Domain
Ciscio router in this network using 192.168.34.1 for this side of T1 on
serial interface
Branch Office:
192.168.23.x/32 network space
Windows XP Professional workstations
Cisco router in this network using 192.168.34.2 for the other side of T1
on serial interface
192.168.23.x network configured on Ethernet interface of router
EIGRP route statement setup to configure dynamic routes
IP Helper address configured to point to DHCP, WINS, and DNS server at
main office
THe router at the branch office can see and talk to EVERYTHING on our
network. It can see the main network, and all of our other satelite networks
with no hesitation whatsoever. I go to a computer on this network that is
configured via DHCP and this machine gets an IP address from DHCP. The
default gateway is correct, pointing to the router at this satellite office.
WINS and DNS point to the correct server at the main office.
The problem is that when I login it will not talk to the domain controllers.
When the system finally times out and logs me in with a local profile I try
to PING the PDC and BDC at the main office and it resolves the address
correctly but cannot get a response. When I PING other servers on the main
network it gets a response. I can even PING another BDC at a different
satellite but not the ones at the main office.
After a while I will eventually get a response to my PINGs to the PDC
and BDC. I can then browse the network and view the file shares for a short
time and then I lose communication with the PDC and BDC again, but I am
still talking to other servers in that same network! (I have two windows
open PINGing the PDC and another PINGing another server). The entire time I
have been looking at the router as well and it can still ping everything on
our network without problems. It is clearly not a router configuration issue
but something with these workstations.
I have never seen this happen before. These machines were moved from the
main office to this branch office due to construction. They worked fine at
the main office.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this problem?
Thank you!
