It sounds like you need to install the wireless card software.
Then you should have a wireless network interface showing up.
With XP, the Linksys recommendation is to install the software *before* you
install the hardware. Then the more automatic install should happen when
the hardware appears.
If you run: Start / Run / cmd
and
type: ipconfig
Does the interface show up there?
If the card isn't plugged in, it won't show up there I believe.
When it is plugged in then it should show up there.
And, it should have an IP address that's compatible with your LAN
