Back again. Everything was working fine for about 8 hours yesterday,
after running Norton SystemWorks, and then for some reason I can no
longer access the WORKGROUP. I get Master Browser errors and NetBT
errors.
I ran "ipconfig /all" on the the desktop and here are my results:
Host Name: silver
Primary DNS suffix: <blank>
Node Type: Unknown
IP Routing Enabled: NO
WINS Proxy Enabled: No
I ran "ipconfig /all" on the laptop and here are my results:
Host Name: falcon
Primary DNS suffix: <blank>
Node Type: Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled: NO
WINS Proxy Enabled: NO
Firewalls are all turned off. I can access the internet. I can ping
all of the computers that are (supposed to be) in the workgroup using
their IP addresses. I cannot ping them using their names. I get the
following: "Ping request could not find host <computer name>. Please
check the name and try again."
I get the Browser error (8009) in the event log when the computer
that's wired to the router is on. Otherwise, it's as if there are no
browsers enabled (laptop (XP Home) and desktop (XP PRo) -- wireless
connection) even though the browser is set to "auto." I also continue
to get NetBT 4321 event errors in the event log when that "wired"
computer is on.
All computers access the internet just fine. And, as long as I use IP
addresses, they can access each other -- just not using names or
through the workgroup.
Would you recommend resetting TCP/IP on all computers and starting
from scratch? Is it possible that a program called "TeamSpeak" has
reset something in the "hardwired" computer that has caused this
problem? I know I'm grasping at straws but how does the network work
like it's supposed to one minute and then have problems, for no
apparent reason, the next?
