Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access

'Access Denied' is a specific error, and indicates a problem with the
user account attempting to connect not having the appropriate share
or NTFS permssions on the machine being connected to.

Since they are XP home machines,
they should by using Simple File Sharing.

That means all sharing operates via the guest account,
so there's no need to set up complicated Access Control Lists.
It also means you should not get any access denieds either.

So something's spannered up with the Guest account,
or with the share or NTFS permissions.

Un-share any shared folders you have set up.
Re-run the network setup wizard.
This will re-enable the guest account and re-set the necessary permissions.
Then re-share any folders you want.
