Cannot see other computer.

Help: I am trying to set up a small network with my desktop and my Laptop. Both computers use Windows XP Pro. I select the option to create a network and run the Network Wixard. I create the network disk and the set up Wizard tell me that I have successfully set up a small network on the first computer. I run the setup disc in the laptop again using the wizard and it once again tells me that I have successfully set up a small network.. At the end of this I am unable to see the other computer. When I go to Network places I only see the computer I am on.

My Connections are as follows. The internet enters the cable modem. From the modemthe signal enters my hub. from the hub one cable connects to my desktop and one connects to my laptop. The radio button that I choose when the wizard is running is the one that says that I am connecting through a residential gateway. I have been trting now for four days to set this up and would appreciate any assistance which would help me.
