I have 3 computers connected through a router to DSL connection. All three are able to access the internet, but when I go the Microsoft update (and some other sites), the third computer scans for updates, gets about 66 percent scanned and locks up. Once it did make scan 100% but when I clicked to install it locked up.

Also when I try to install the software that came with the DSL modem. It will not install through the router. Is there some way I can get around this?

The two that are doing just fine have Win XP home edition; the one that does not let me get updates has Win 98 SE. I don't think the problem is in the OS because I had the same problem with one that has Win XP home ed.
