network down after windows update

Help! After installing XP update plus killing a virus my home network
stopped working

COnfiguration:
A: Xp pro; ethernet card and modem with internet connection sharing
B: Xp home

peer to peer network; A and B in one workgroup Myhome; ipconfig does
not show anything strange; guest account uses blank password -
permitted in Local policies/security options

B can connect to Internet using the modem connection of A;
B can ping A

B cannot access shared folders on A (... you might not have permission
to access this network resource)
A can access shared folders on B

A: On the Advanced tab of LAN premissions on A the Firewall box is
disabled (grayed out)

After update installation on A, the system became unstable - had to
restore the last good config. Then I found this problem with network
access. Google search did not return anything that would work. Any
idea?
