I have two machines connected to each other, both running
Win XP Pro. I am trying to access the registry of one
machine (Home2) from the other (Home1) using "Connect
Network Registry" from the file menu of regedit. Both
machines are under the MSHOME workgroup and are acting as
clients.
I am able to pick up and connect Home2 from the "Select
Computer" dialogue box but I cannot open the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_USERS keys (hives). The error
I get is "Cannot open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE: Error while
opening key" and a similar one for HKEY_USERS. I am doing
this in order to pick up certain values like Computer
Name, Processor Type, processor Speed etc of Home2 from
Home1.
I do not understand why I cannot open the keys as I am
logged onto both machines as an administrator with full
privileges and rights. Can somebody please advice me on
this matter asap.
Thanks,
Dipan
