Well, I see all my Technet PLus subscrition gets me is a
two line standard response from the folks at this managed
    newsgroup.

The "multiple IP addresses on the server" was not even
close. My subsiquent replies after that response brought
no further help from Microsoft. Thanks guys.

I did find some help on the Google groups. There I found
some postings that suggested the problem lie with the
Linksys Broadband Router that I had installed. While
being able to successfully connect via VPN when I used an
ethernet port on the router I was not able to make a VPN
connection using the wireless LAN on the Linksys. It
seems Linksys firmware for the WRT54G has problems doing
VPN when 802.11b is on the client machine. I fixed my
problem by replacing the WRT54G router (802.11g) with a
BEFW11S4 router (802.11b). Linksys doesn't claim to have
any issues with downward compatability but the proof is
    in the pudding.

Thanks again to the MS folks for all their help.
