You have just discovered NTFS permissions!

By default, XP will set up each user's documents folder with
NTFS (disk file ) permissions set for:

1) only that user, and..
2) Administrators.

That means Admin users can read each others files.

If a user marks his files as 'private', that removes the
'Administrators' group from the NTFS permissions.
That leavs only himself able to read his files.
Other Admin users can't read his files now.
( But they can re-set the permissions to give themselves access! )

You will have the same problems trying to access these folders
locally on the machine where they exist, if you are logged in as the
same user as was unable to view them remotely.

Essentially, it's not a network problem, per se.
Its just a general permissions issue.

Try disabling simple file sharing, and then right-click the
folder you are getting 'access denied' on.
Go to 'Sharing and Security' tab, and select the Security tab.
By default, there are 3 entries:
   Administrators (Your-PC\Administrators)
   Username
   System

Add 'Administrators' group back in if required.
Then Administrators can access this folder.
