Dialup problem

I have a .BAT file that uses RASDIAL to connect to another computer and then NET USE to map to a folder to the remote computer. I then copy files to the remote and finally disconnect. This is all set up in a Scheduled task to run in the middle of the night. I have 9 locations that all do this procedure at staggered times - they all call during a preset time slot to the same remote computer to copy the daily files.

This works 75% of the time...the rest of the time, one of the locations successfully makes the connection, but the files are never copied and the modem never disconnects. I even tried setting up a second scheduled task 1/2 hour later to do a RASDIAL /Disconnect , yet the modem is still connected in the morning. The result is a busy signal for the subsequent locations that try to dial in and very large phone bills, as the calls are long distance.

Its almost as though the modem stops responding after the initial connection is made. Again, the strange part is that some nights all locations dialup, copy files and disconnect - no problem. The problem is NOT restricted to just one location. Sometimes it happens at the first location, other times it happens to any one of the other 8 locations. No rhyme or reason, that I can figure.

Any idea about what might be happening here?
