Windows XP can't recognize my HP Network Printer

I have a small workgroup os Windows 98 systems sharing an
HO Color Laser which has an HP JetDirectinternal print
server, all connected through CAT5 cabling throughout my
house. We have been using the IPX/SPX protocol for
printer sharing for ease of use.
I recently purchased a new PC with Windows XP home
edition, and had discovered that IPX/SPX is not supported
or available. The problem is, that whenever I try to
install the printer and use the JetDirect's factore
default IP address, Windows XP doesn't recognize it and
all prints error out.
I have Qwest broadband (VDSL) and they supply IP's
through their DHCP servers, but shouldn't I still be able
to communicate (install and recognize) the default IP on
the HP JetDirect adapter?
What should I do to get this working?
