Guys...I'm a real XP newbie and I sure could use a little
help and advice. I've serached for answers, but so far
I'm still unable to solve my problem

I recently installed XP Home Edition on my wife's computer
(at her insistance) and now the internet is simply not
there. Here's my situation:

I'm attempting to access the internet via a D-Link DI-704P
router which is functioning perfectly. In fact, the
router "sees" the XP computer regardless of the name I
give it and assigns the same IP address each time. So I
know I'm getting at least to the router. I've turned off
the XP firewall. I do have ZoneAlarm Pro installed but
it's not running. Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition is
installed and running. I have three users with
common "people" name....no "Guest" or "Administrator".
The LAN connection is integral with the motherboard
(GigaByte GA-7N400-L)and was working perfectly with
Windows 98SE just yesterday. I do in fact see the Local
Area Connection icon and it's functioning as expected
according to XP. I've run the internet connection setup
wizard a number of times with no luck. If I swap the LAN
cable to another computer in the room I have no problem
accessing the internet. QoS Packet Scheduler is not
installed and when I enter manually the Gateway, DNS, IP,
and etc. I know to be correct, still nothing happens.

Am I supposed to logon as "Administrator" to set up the
connection? If so, how do I do that? When I restart, all
I see are the three users; none of which have a password.
No passwords were assigned at installation.

I feel as though the router may be part of the problem,
but I've set the XP machine's IP as a simple "pass
through" in the router. D-Link calls this pure exposure
to the internet the DMZ.

If anybody has any suggestions or comments, I sure would
be appreciative....
David
