I ended up going back to simple file sharing (although I still used a
password on the Guest Account). After doing that the sharing dialog box
prompted me to enable File & Printer Sharing by running the Network Setup
Wizard. I opted to enable it without running the wizard and now it works
fine. So I guess you have to run the wizard or enable Simple File Sharing
before you switch to Advanced File Sharing. Not very intuitive, the advanced
dialog should prompt you too.
