... running in a DOS Window on a Win98 client to a WinXPPro server on
a 2 m/c network.
Why does it hang (causing the Win98 client to crash and burn) when the
WinXPPro server is up and running, but only appears for a few secinds
and (apparently) functions normally when the server is not up?
Currently, if the Win98 m/c needs to be rebooted (which is quite
often, Win98 being what it is), then the server needs to be shut down
also and the Win98 m/c allowed to complete its bootup process before
the server is restarted - something of an inconvenience.
The Win98 m/c is a x86 Family 6, Model 8, Step 6 (whatever the hell
that is supposed to mean) with 250M of RAM and apparently hasn't
enough grunt to be converted to WinXP.
Server: WinXPPro, ICS behind ZoneAlrmPro firewall configured for a
gateway m/c. Norton AV. Pestpatrol also installed and running.
(ICS is not configured to allow the client m/c to control the
connection or to dial a connection when one is not present.)
Client: Win98, running ZoneAlarmPro firewall configured for a client
m/c. Norton AV.
Some help would be appreciated.
