printers on network

Just curious about something. Have a couple of computers each with XP set
up to share files and printers. In each of the respective printer listings,
there are two listings for the remote printer, one just as is and another
with auto. It does the same with the remote winfax listings as well.

Why does it do that. They both work the same seemingly. Is there anything
different about each.
