Re: Start - No Sounds, Restart - Sounds!!

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

What I mean by turned off is that I have used "Start/Turn Off Computer/Turn
Off" and it has been about 4 hours before I have turned the PC back on.

Have tried to download latest drive From Drive Manager (when I have Sounds)
but latest version already installed.

When I turned on my PC after being turned off for about 1.5 hours the
"Windows XP Logon Sound.wav" for "Windows Logon" is corrupted and sounds like
it is struggling to play, but the "Vinyl AC'97 audio" does start.

Any more ideas?

Thank Jerry - Home/Office is selected (have desktop) & "Enable
Hibernation"
is not checked.

Using Windows XP SP3 if it helps.

Any more ideas

When I Start my PC after it has been turned off for about 4 hours or
more
I
have no sounds. If I then either turn it off and back on again, or
restart,
the sounds are fine. Logging off and back on does not work, nor does
switching users.

During the no sounds situation when I view "Sounds & Audio Devices
Properties" there are no devices installed under any of the tabs and
there
is
no sound device listed under the hardware tab. When I have restarted my
PC
and I get sounds the "Vinyl AC'97 Audio" devices are installed under
all
tabs
and is listed as a hardware item.

Also under the no sounds situation when I view "System
Information/Software
Environment/System Drivers" the "Vinyl AC'97 Audio" appears under the
name
"viaudio". Under the "Started" heading it is No and under the "State"
heading
it is Stopped. When I have sounds these headings are Yes & Running
respectively. The "Start Mode" heading shows Manual which I would have
thought should be Boot!

It is not a case of not being able to get sounds as all I have to do is
turn
on my PC and then Restart to overcome the problem but obviously I would
rather not have to do this.

When I refer to no sound, this is music and "Sound Schemes"

Help please.

Laptop or Desktop ?

Sounds like whatever you have is hibernating and then not restarting the
sound drivers.

Try this :

Start > Control Panel > power Options > Make sure if its a desktop you
have
Home/office Desk selected in Power Schemes. If Laptop, select that. You
can
then select as and when your screen HD etc turn off if you want to save
power/their life.

Then click on the Hibernation Tab and make sure that "Enable hibernation"
is
NOT checked. If it is, un-check it and then Apply > OK and re-boot. That
could solve your problem.

Cheers,
Jerry

Not really ....... what do you mean by "has been turned off for about 4
hours or more " ? Complete power off, or hibernating, or simply showing a
screen saver ?

One thing you could try is downloading the latest XP specific soundcard
drivers and installing them.

Cheers,
Jerry
