Help! Sound and video playback speed problems

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I'm running windows XP pro with Intel integrated audio as my default
playback device, but everything I play, regardless of file type or
program, sounds like the chipmunks. Video is similarly fast. I've
updated all the drivers I can think of, as well as completely
uninstalled and reinstalled everything, but the problem persists. Anyone
have any ideas? Thanks!
