I recently added 4gigs of memory to my system, which is the max it can
have,
and almost instantly had audio glitches, (i.e. a repetitive clicking
sound,
that escalates into a screeching-click). I don't know if that was the
cause,
but the problem started right after that. At first the sound worked
normally, a few minutes later the problem seemed to appear w/o any reason,
I
checked all of the connections they were good, then suddenly the problem
stopped for a few minutes then started up again, this happened a couple of
times. So at first I thought it was a short in the speaker wires, but I
tried different speakers and had the same problem. I tried reinstalling
the
most recent version of my audio driver, and this didn't help. I don't know
if
I may have somehow damaged the sound card while installing the ram, but I
was
very careful not to touch anything in the system, but the ram slots. Is
there
*hopefully* a quick fix to something like this? Or am i going to need a
new
sound card? Also, I notice the problem seems to be only happening to
.wav/mp3
sound files, when trying to play music or movies with any program, also
the
problem is with some games, but isnt there when playing videos, or any
other
sounds from a website. Btw the computer is using Windows XP.
Try uninstalling your dirvers, AND the sound card. Take it out, physically,
then boot up and shut down.
Re-install the soundcard, in a different PCI slot if you have one. Power up
the PC, do not let XP install the drivers automatically (or look for them on
the Net).
Install them from the .exe file you should have downloaded from the
manufacturer.
If that doesn't work, try another soundcard (from a friend etc) in its
place. If the other card works OK then your soundcard is knoackered. They
are not expensive.
