Yesterday I performed a Recovery & Restore function and shut my system....
immediately thereafter. Today I notice the 'Window Logon" sound and
everything from media player and online download sounds were not
playing. When I went to play Windows Media Player I received the
following message: "There was a problem playing the audio file.
(0xC00D11BA: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there
is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound
device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another
program, or it might not be functioning properly." I ran a diagnosis
and the results were: ------------------
However, my laptop came with a built-in sound card. So I know my
card still inside.
What can I do to either solve this problem or re-configure my file?
Just a partial answer, unfortunately:
Laptops tend to have emulated sound cards, sharing the analog/digital
converter with the modem (and having hardly any additional hardware).
You could check Control Panel | System | Hardware | Device Manager, and see
what's listed under "Sound, video and game controllers".
I would expect some entry to be marked as not functioning properly.
A popular laptop sound card is the Realtek AC'97, but "quartz" in your
listing rings a distant bell.
Hope this helps you started.
