have windows xp with all the latest security up-dates installed.
my sound card is realtek ac97.
have downloaded the latest drivers from realtek but still NO sound....
anyone an idea what else i could do?

0) Verify that you have speakers properly connected to the computer, and
that they are powered on (if applicable).
1) Check that your AC'97 is the default audio device (in Control Panel |
Sounds and Audio Devices).
2) Check there that the Volume icon appears in the System Tray.
3) Double-click on that Volume icon, and check that all relevant sliders
(for playback) are set above zero, and that none of these are checked
"Mute".
4) If still no sound, check in Control Panel | System | Hardware |
Device
Manager that these drivers are causing no problem, and that the device
has
not been disabled.

Re-install your sound card drivers.
