Hi Chris
Thanks but have done all of that and loaded new drivers. Nothing....
There is no system sound at all.
Too worried to open BIOS and check there....
Don't concentrate too much on these latest drivers. And if you do, make sure
that they are compatible with XP, not just Vista. (The architecture of Vista
is different in the very fields of audio and graphics handling.)
Little chance that the BIOS will solve your problem, unless you have
disabled the sound card there.
You have now narrowed "no sound" to "no system sound". By "system sounds"
Windows means the sounds intended to draw your attention upon opening or
closing programs, making choices, receiving mail, ... These are organized in
"schemes", and you must select a scheme to have system sounds. You still
won't hear any unless in that scheme sounds have been associated with
events. This is maintained in Conrol Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices |
Sounds.
4) If still no sound, check in Control Panel | System | Hardware |
Device Manager that these drivers are causing no problem, and that
the device has not been disabled.
If the problem persists, it is likely due to something tiny, like having the
loudspeaker plug not fully inserted or inserted in the microphone connector,
having the volume turned to zero on those speakers, or something of that
magnitude. Can't judge that from here! :-)
