I have the same problem. I got rid of Media palyer 11 and now I have no
sound, except the beeping. I did have this problem last year and a PC tech
fixed it but I do not remember what he did. I had to completely reinstall
my
XP in Oct.06 and now I do not have the 2 updates from Windows for my
problem.
I did have a print out of all the updates that were on my PC before and
seem
to have lost it. I am really missing being able to play a CD or hear stuff
that hass sound that a friend sends to me. IF you find out how to fix this
I
sure would appreciate knowing how you did it.

I have a soundblaster card and it doesn't work now either since the WMP11
install. In fact I rolled back to WMP10 and still no audio. I believe
this
to be a problem with Sound Volume (SndVol32.exe to be specific). Sound
Volume is still installed but refuses to load because no "mixer" is
detected
and it demands the "mixer" be reinstalled through add/remove hardware.
Again, the audio devices ARE all installed, up to date, and "working
properly" so 'round and 'round we go. I even pulled my sound card out,
rebooted, reinstalled WMP11, shut down, reinstalled the card, and still
no
audio. I sure wish someone from Microsoft read these boards. Seems
wrong to
have to pay them to fix a problem caused by their own programs.

I have a problem with my sound driver, after updating the driver and
rebooting, I found that I could use my audio devices anymore. In Sounds
and Audio, it says that there are no devices for any of the categories.
However, Device Manager says that everything is working fine.
I have tried lots of things, downloading drivers of the Gigabyte
website, drivers of the VIA website and even the Microsoft ones. The
original CD that came with the motherboard does not work. Everytime I
uninstall the driver, Windows XP re-installs it using Found New
Hardware Wizard. I cannot roll-back or use System Restore.
SPECS:
CPU: AMD Duron 800
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7ZM
RAM: 448MB
Chipset: VIA KT133
North Bridge: VIA VT8363 Apollo KT133
South Bridge: VIA VT82C686A
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2
Anyone, please help.
Let WMP update itself via MS Updates, fire it up > Help > Check for Updates
..
For a corrupt sndVol32.exe file :
Put your XP CD in your reader/player > Stop it from autolaunching (hold down
Shift key) > then Start > Run > type in msconfig > OK > click on Expand and
follow the instructions.
The file you're going to replace is sndVol32.exe. Point the directions
(search the CD-Rom) and expand the file into the c:\windows\system32\
folder.
Re-boot
Did that work ?
Cheers,
Jerry
