Is there a codec to enable WMP11 to play mp4 files?
The trouble with mp4 files is that they can be video or audio, and they
come in several variations. A player may play none, some, or perhaps
most of the versions. There were codecs for some earlier versions of
the WMP, but these may or may not work on the new WMP11. Some free
players you can download will play some versions of mp4. Also the free
Real and QT players will work with some versions. Also a player that
comes with Nero will work with some. I would not try to get away from
Winamp. There are likely more plugins for it for less used audio
formats than for any other player. Since one player can not do all, I
think you need at least the WMP, Real, QT, and Winamp players to play
most of the formats on the web. Even then you may have to search for
some more unusual plugins. Often inputting something such as "Winamp
plugin .ape" into Google will find what you need.
