Having a similar problem

I'm having a somewhat similar problem with my computer, which is the same model as yours. As far as I can tell mine does recognize blank media, but for some reason when I try to burn anything to a disk it only goes so far, stops, and says there was an "error" in the process. This has ruined every CD I've tried to burn to, which has been quite a few so far. It gives me some error codes, here:

Sense: 04 ASC: 09 ASCQ: 00 (Command 2A)

But... I have absolutely no idea what that means. I have Windows XP as well, maybe our problems have a similar cause?
