Sorry about that, the distortion was really muffled sound, I feel extremely
stupid now as I have found the fault. The graphic equaliser went haywire for
some reason.

What sort of distortion are we talking about? Which version of WMP? Is there
a similar problem if other playback software is used?

I am having similar problems with my downloaded music. It is distorted and
it
is the same when I try to play cd's. It's a fairly recent problem, but nor
sure when it started. Hope someone comes up with an answer.

How do these files sound when played back on another device?

I have been experiencing problems with my music (wma) files stored on
my
hard
drive. After a while, certain files playback with distortion in the
higher
frequencies and an overall loss of dynamic content. They sound like a
low
bit-rate, compressed mp3 (on both windows media player and dell
musicmatch
jukebox), even-though most of my music was recorded as ether a wma or
wma
lossless file. Could this be the result of disk defrag? Can anyone tell
me
how to maintain the integrity of the original file information? Here's
some
of my system info:
