Did you install any DVD player software?
Don't worry about the various formats, basically the DVD formats are compatible when reading or playing one to the other. Just can't record on a DVD-Writer that has -R format and expect it to be read on a +R device.
You can purchase a 'full' application such as WinDVD or just get the [cheaper] CODECS which will allow the Movie to be viewed in Windows Media Player.
Do a google and decide which is best for you.
