Hi,
I hope you can help me. I have had a PC (which was custom
built for audio home studio use by {Area51UK -based in
Hemel Hempstead} since July 1999. (They are
unfortunately, no longer in business, so far as I know,
or they would be my first port of call).
My PC has packed up and I am told you can't get hold of
the chips or new motherboards any more to effect repair,
so it's as good as a doorstop, unfortunately.
I have used and upgraded, since 1999, my Steinberg Cubase
software from V3.7 up to V5.1 (that being the limit of my
possible upgrade with this machine - It being a Pentium
III 500Mhz running Windows 98.)
I have another, much newer machine, bought in 2002, which
is a Penium 4 2.4 Ghz with 512Mb memory running XP Pro
platform. It is set up as a Digital Video non-linear
editing suite running Adobe Premiere with c:(boot &
applications), d:, and e: drives (video storage) each
80Gb. I have two spare PCI slots, in this machine, and
wanted to incorporate my Audio and Video into one PC, due
to my current personal circumstances in not being able to
afford another PC.
I wanted to transfer my Yamaha SW1000XG Sound card and
the drive that holds my music files - an 8Gb SCSI drive
and SCSI drive card over from the now defunct P3 PC to
the new O4 PC without effecting the current configuration
and hence operation of this new video PC.
Can you please advise me if it is possible to achieve
this and assign the Cubase V5.1 program to work
exclusively with the Yamaha SW1000XG card whilst leaving
the Adobe Premiere video software and everything else on
the PC to remain working with the resident Soundblaster
Audigy Card.
I have been on the Yamaha XGWorks & Yamaha XG Factory
websites looking for updates and info. (since in the
original instance it was Area51UK who configured my P3 PC
and I naturally don't exactly know what they did), I am
assuming that all I need, in order to get SW1000XG
functioning was the XG Works Ver 3.0 and upgrade patch to
XG Works Ver 3.7 for XP Pro, and associated driver. I
wasn't sure if this was all I needed or if there is any
other software required? I have already tried setting it
up but got into difficulties since I swapped some boards
around and screwed up the config of the video PC and had
to go back through de-installing and re-installing the
Matrox X.Tools software that configures the video
settings for correct operation. That's all OK now and
back as it was, up to date with current upgrades.
Whilst trying to set-up the Yamaha SW1000XG i was able to
identify that a driver had been installed for the card
but it still wouldn't allow the card to be installed
giving an error 10. This was whether I had the
Soundblaster Audigy* card installed or not. So it
evidently isn't just a matter of conflicting soundcards
that's at issue. *(This is the soundcard that is the
resident card set up for the Audio applications with
Video running Adobe Premiere 6.5 and Ulead DVD.)
Surely PCI bus compatible soundcards can co-exist within
a Pentium 4 PC configured for specific seperate use?
(this PC is an Asus P4T533-C)
I have been in touch with Yamaha via email, but as yet
have had no response.
Can you help with my dilemma of getting all my hardware
and software working happily together in one box?
Thank you for your help
Andy Keffler
