Okay, thanks very much for your input. I am gonna try and make some wmv-files.

Any suggestions what settings I should check?

Kind regards,

Thijs

Yes, wmv files should play easier... I suggest making a number of wmv files and checking them to find the 'sweet spot' for your system.... which varies by the computer.

It's possible some setting is causing it...

Thanks for your response. The files are okay. I can play them in WM Player.
I don't think my hard drive is fragmented since it;s been this way from the
start. Do you think encoding the files to WMV-format would help?

Kind regards,

The DV-AVI files made by Movie Maker are meant to be intermediate steps to a camcorder or DVD... not the final video for smooth playing. Usually the file is still good even if you can't watch it smoothly.

Your hard drive might be fragmented.... being large files they might be stored in hundreds of parts, making playback a bit harder.... defragging might do it.

Beyond defragging it depends on the speed of the hard drive.... and to some extend other things that are going on in parallel with the playing.

When I try to play a clip in WMM, after about 50 seconds both audio and video get all jerky and faltering. When I played the same clip in Windows Media Player I had no problems at all. I have a fairly new ACER 7730Z. The clip was encoded using WMM into a high quality AVI-file.
Any suggestions as to how to make the clip play fluently?
